Salad Garden, Japan
HORTURION HPS lamps
“The knowledge and service BLV and Ushio provided is a key factor that will help me to stabilize both quality and quantity of my paprika production.
With the BLV HORTURION lamps I want to increase my yield and I think that can be achieved by planting earlier and getting through the winter with artificial lighting. This way we can harvest earlier, increasing both my yield and the value per kg.”

|Location:||Salad Garden is one of the biggest producers of bell peppers in Japan and well known throughout the country. The planting area is almost 2.3 ha, of which currently nearly 5000 square meters are with artificial lighting. This area is used for propagation after the nursery phase and for production. The nursery area of 172 square meters is also equipped with HPS lighting.|
|Challenge:|| Planning and realisation of an ideal lighting solution for the newly built greenhouse with the aim to improve both quality and yield and to shorten the nursery and propagation period to promote earlier harvest.|
|Installation:|| Salad Garden uses the BLV power supply together with the 1000 W BLV HPS lamp to increase and optimise their bell pepper yield. The 1000 W HPS lamp was chosen because it has the highest light output (2100 µmol s-1). |
The BLV lighting is used in the bell pepper nursery area and in propagation and production. The light intensity in the propagation and production area was set to 70 µmol s-1 m-² (at crop level). To better control light intensities two individual power lines were installed. In this way light levels can be reduced by 50 %.
